Why has GWB placed the papers of the Bush 41 admin and his own permanently beyond access to historians?

What is the justification for not letting the American people know what these two administrations did? Why the secrecy?

After all a president is an employee of the American people. We ultimately hold them accountable.

Why has GWB placed the papers of the Bush 41 admin and his own permanently beyond access to historians?
Mr Bush has repeatedly shown that he does not view himself accountable to the people of the US. He doesn't feel he needs to justify his actions to the people who are paying his salary.

The man actually views himself as a dictator and not an employee of the US. Not a very good one at that (Think Louis XIV).

He will have a very rude awakening when his term expires and he is just another guy out of a job!

Reply:same reason that papers from any pres. were destroyed or hidden. to hide anything that might appear to be or was able to be scrutinized by opposing parties, also if this is the case about accountability, do some research on lbj, jfk, jimmy carter, mr. bill, and you will find they all, they all hid or destroyed papers and or documents. sooner or later history will find out.
Reply:he had them arranged that way but it has been reversed back to the original time out!
Reply:This is one of the biggest problems with our country. The government does not have the right to with hold any information. Ben Franklin said it best and it should be a rallying cry for all Americans( the biggest threat to democracy is secrecty). That why our four fathers made laws that made every aspect of the government visible. I not sure when it started but at some point the government started holding information from the public for security reasons. That sounds good but over the years it has become a watershed for hiding every wrong or immoral practice from the people. We need a completely open government they work for us and should tell us everything not hide behind closed doors.
Reply:Why did Sandy Berger stuff papers down his pants and go bye bye with them??
Reply:King George does as he pleases. Death to all us peasants who oppose the king!
Reply:A president's papers are open for public viewing after a certain amount of time. Eventually, they will be given the "light of day" when the time requirement is met. There have been numerous cases of government laws and acts that require governments agencies to divulge their records, under the so-called "Sunshine Laws."

Historians will be able to view the documents that Bush has created, and I wonder what historians fifty years from now will say. Should be interesting!
