Is the constitution just a piece of paper?

"The Constitution is just a piece of paper" - G.W. Bush. September 30, 2006

I'm curious. Did Bush actually say this, and if so where? And if Bush said this, how would you compare it to what Kerry said recently regarding getting stuck in Iraq?

Is the constitution just a piece of paper?
it's an unsubstantiated quote ... some people claim Bush said it, some claim he didn't.

Reply:Hope he didn't say it. He is not the sharpest President in terms of verbal talent but I still find it hard he would say that. Constitution is a vibrant, powerful and guiding document that is paramount to all citizen's rights.
Reply:It wasn't asked in front of a grand jury so we may never know. However, as far as Mr. Bush is concerned it's not worth the ink used to write it.
Reply:technically, yes it is.
Reply:I bet he thinks this is so.
Reply:No, it isn't, and no, he did not. Or at least, no one can PROVE that he said such a thing. It was posted on a website at one point, they took it down because it was misrepresented, and then they put it back up with the disclaimer that it was from a third-party source.
Reply:I really want to know where you got that source from because if he did say that...he is literally the definition of anti-American. The constitution is without a doubt the most important document in America. It literally gives the word "America" a meaning.

When people saying that bashing the war in Iraq is anti-American, I have always repsonded that the Constitution is what is American, not our President. If believed otherwise, we are in a dictatorship. Bush doesnt not equal American, the Constitution does.

I hope you understand that I don't believe its just a paper, its a nation.
Reply:You can see him say it right here for all the right wingers who are going to say he didn't.

He also said things would be easier if this was a dictatorship, as long as he was the dictator.

Unfortunately he seems to believe in both ideas.
Reply:Yes he did,you can search hear for it.
Reply:The Liberals want to change and define the constitution as they see fit, regardless of the majority that want to keep it the way that it is.
