How come Bush does not have respect for the USA Constitution?

I recently found a claim that in December 2005, as President Bush sought to get the Patriot Act renewed and an aide angered him over the bill's constitutionality, President Bush exclaimed, "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, it's just a goddamn piece of paper!"

Although I find this difficult to believe, I have found numerous references. Capitol Hill Blue, a website described as "conservative" allegedly reported it originally on 9 December 2005. The reporter, Doug Thompson, confirmed the incident with three individuals present at the meeting.

If this report is true, it suggests our current executive is less than serious about his primary responsibility: to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. If true, why have we heard so little about it, and why our other national leaders, both Dem %26amp; Rep, remained silent?

How come Bush does not have respect for the USA Constitution?
This doesn't surprise me.

It is part of the neocons larger agenda.

Won't it be funny to see how they react to a Democrat President showing so much contempt for the Constitution.

The neocons do not understand that ours is a nation of laws, not of men.
Reply:Not a Bush support but I highly doubt he said that. I too have heard this story and I think it is false.

Anyway he does not respect the Constitution because he is expanding the power of the executive branch and the other 2 branches are letting him. They refuse to keep him in check so he feels he has no checks anymore...as he DID say "He answers to Jesus".

ILconservative%26gt; The Patriot Act is a horrible POS that gives the President sole and non-over-sighted authority to declare without any trial or charges someone...anyone a enemy combatant..a terrorist. That is a suspension of habeas corpus which is a violation of Constitution which means he violated oath. It is 100% against the ideals of American and it provides ZERO protection against terrorists. Basically it gives President Psychopath the ability to pick me out of a crowd, grab me off street, keep me locked up for rest of my life all without charging me with anything, giving me a trial or even announcing that I have been detained.....that sounds like something that Saddam Hussein would do...not America
Reply:Criminals always hate the law because it reduces their freedom to be themselves.
Reply:It’s hard to have respect for a document that you have never read. Bush is a man bereft of any real intellectual curiosity, and in fact it is this same lack of curiosity that causes him to say, almost gleefully, that he never reads the newspaper, but has aids that summarize it for him.

You can be almost guaranteed that a man who trivializes knowledge to this degree has probably never read the Constitution. So of course he would not respect it. Bush is as Machiavellian as they come. He contravenes his own profession of the Christian faith by, instead of turning the other cheek and seeking peaceable solutions to global conflict, actually acting with overt aggression. He spouts off during both his 2000 and 2004 campaign about breaking the strangle hold of special interest groups and about the virtues of decreasing the size of government, and yet what does he do? He caters to the most corrupt interest groups of them all –defense contractors and pharmaceutical companies – and he expands the government to a size not even fathomable to even the most overzealous “tax and spend” Democrat.

His entire Presidency has been one of betrayal – betrayal of his campaign promises, betrayal of our troops, and betrayal of all that is fundamental to the American ideal. Given his mendacity and his lack of ethical substance, do you actually think he would ever adhere to any document, even the very document that is the cornerstone of our Democracy? To think he would is to delude yourself.
Reply:What was it AL Gore said? The Constitution is a Living Breathing Document, to be interpreted according to the times we live in. Of course, that was back when he was running for office and assumed HE was the one who'd be doing the interpreting.

But if it makes you feel any better, I won't be voting for George Bush in 2008.
Reply:You're worried about the fact that he said that about the constitution? The biggest thing I would be worried about is the patriot act. Read it. It's taking away all of America's freedoms. Be afraid!!
Reply:You found a 'claim.'

Figures that you would be dumb enough to believe that something is 'unConstitutitional' after the US Supreme Court stated otherwise.
Reply:Two words: LAME DUCK. Bush can't run again for president....so he doesn't care who he ticks off.
Reply:Why do you even care what Bush says in private out of anger? Is it effecting you personally? Does the Patriot Act effect you personally, other than protecting you against future terrorist attacks? Maybe you should stop worrying about something that was said nearly two years ago and worry about what is really a threat to our country....radical Muslims.

Shaz, you are truly paranoid. trust me, you are not important enough to get nabbed off the street for doing nothing. The vanity of you liberals consistently amazes me.
Reply:I don't know of any politician that has respect for the Constitution. Nothing that the Federal government does today is in accordance to it.
Reply:For one, he feels that he is above the law. And two, he feels that his two terms are almost up anyways, so who does he really have to impress at this point.
Reply:Wow, I don't know what to say.
Reply:Why does your question say that he does not have any respect for the Constitution, while the details of your question admit that it's just a claim?

Secondly, it was deemed Constitutional, but he had to stop it anyway because the program became useless since the New York Times released it.

Finally, you're saying that he does not respect the Constitution, when all you can give for proof is one disputed statement that he made in a moment of anger?

You need to work on your story.
Reply:Claim

To a liberal

If against a GOP...is a iron clad fact to be insisted upon that it is true even if facts say otherwise

If against a Dem....is just a rumor to be denied even if the claim is supported by video and genetic evidense.

To a Con

If against a Dem...is subject to being proven by facts

If against another GOP...is subject to being proven by facts

To a Rep...GOP OR DEM....is something to wait and see if they can make a political point with it without hurting themselves and looking any more foolish...
