Isn't it dangerous when Bush makes decisions NOW, and future Presidents must pay the price LATER?

When the Founding Fathers designed the Constitution, there was no 2-year term limit, which is why Franklin Roosevelt served 12 years. The intention for unlimited terms was that a President every year in office would have the incentive to make decisions and continue on course.

When you have the 2-term limit, Bush can alleviate himself of accountability in the 8th year of office, since his term is up anyway.

I'm concerned that the economic stimulus package was a year-8 move on Bush's part that will cause increased Federal Debt for a new President next year to deal with, though the Democratic Congress stood by it.

If any of you ever cooked smores under a campfire, you may remember what happened if you threw a paper cup into the fire pit. The fire sparked up for 7 seconds and then the cup was gone for good. That is EXACTLY the effect of a $600 stimulus package. Nobody is fooled by the temporary gains, especially when markets factor all future cashflows into pricing.

Isn't it dangerous when Bush makes decisions NOW, and future Presidents must pay the price LATER?
You're absolutely right. You can be sure that Bush is 'making himself look good' by giving Americans tax cuts now, knowing that future presidents will look bad trying to impose taxes to fix the mess that Bush has created.

But the worst part is that Americans keep buying into it--no politician dare speak the words "raise taxes." So inflation will continue, and the US economy will grow shakier/

--oh, and yeah, people under 40? WORRY. Look at your paychecks. See those $ that go into FICA? Don't expect to ever get them back.
Reply:Thanks!

Coincidentally, I just read a book that quoted Walker a lot. What he said is frightening, isn't it?

These days, if the fed. gov. needs more money, it just prints it--like the Germans did at one point, causing their currency to ultimately collapse. Report It

Reply:Learned it from his dad, he did...

After all, what famous war did Bush Sr. leave for Bill Clinton?

But actually it's an old political trick... goes back centuries and is an unfortunate consequence of the scorched earth politics of the industrial/corporate age.
Reply:I disagree,I do realize the stimulus package is just a re-distribution of money/wealth,but the democrats have been doing that for years, why would it bother you now that a republican has done it?
Reply:The stimulus package is a joke. Most people will have that spent in one day and then poof, the stock market drops again.

Most of it will go for gas and bills.
Reply:yes but I think most people would agree that the most dangerous thing that Bush could have done was becoming the president in the 1st place
Reply:The two-term limit was amended to the Constitution after FDR left office. The precedent was set by none other than George Washington himself. He said that any more than two terms set the stage for another monarchy.

The stimulus package is a joke; I'm using mine to pay my state taxes from last year, buy textbooks for next semester, and maybe get a haircut %26amp; a tank of gas.

What concerns me more, however, is what the Fed is doing with the economy. The way the interest rates have been lowered is causing serious inflation, which will peak at the end of this year or the beginning of next. The next president will have to raise interest rate substantially to correct the damage that's been done.

Bush is allowing this to happen to guarantee a Republican president in 2012.
Reply:Many people talk about the Constitution, but barely a handful of those who have read it can understand it.

It's basically void and has been for quite some time. Each President and Congress chips away at it, as the Founder's warned us would happen.

It really doesn't matter what any President does anymore because, due to our lack of diligence we've lost what too many of us think we still have: A free country.

We are living under a totalitarian dictatorship, and just because the CEO of that regime changes every few years, and because some of us are allowed to "vote" for (some of) our various masters, you believe we are free.

Oh and yeah, what Bush did regarding Directive 51: Poor Hillary or Obama! They might have to assume total power in case of a crisis! Mercy! I'm sure neither wants to do that!
Reply:Isnt that a bit naive? Dont you think that the decisions that left GWB in this situation were caused by th ineptitde of Clinton and his failed policies internationally. He chose inaction instead of striking back against those that harmed America throughout the world. Bush had to deal with that and just becuase he chose decisive measures that have prevented attacks in America for 7 years, dont tell me that the next president shouldnt deal with that. I guess we had better elect someone competent to take care of these issues (so that rules out Clinton or Obama). CLinton took credit for the economy that he was given by Reagan and Bush, but he didnt whine about that.
