I'm writing a term paper about fascism for my political science class. now i know fascism is a VERY controversial topic, especially in the United States.... seeing that a lot of people think they know what it is and others thinking they know what its not.
i just want to write a very neutral essay about the ideology and need hard facts. i don't need peoples' opinions about how they think GW Bush is fascist or how fascism and communism and nazism is the same, because its not.
What are some good sources i can go to for unbias facts about fascism and what are your thoughts on what i should write the paper about... given that its also a very broad topic???
Writing a paper about fasicism?
Fascism is a variation of socialism called "national socialism". It is an extreme form of populism which began with long time socialist revolutionary Bendito Moussilili. He decided that Karl Marx's vision was not to be lived through international revolution of the proliteriat, but rather that each nation would take hold of it's own kind of socialism best fit for it's cultural identity.
This is where National Socialism (Fascism) and International Socialism (Communism) split. Moussilini worked hard on behalf of what he dubbed "the middle class". He wanted to create a dictatorial paradise for the progressive era. This developed into a populist plan for a welfare state, regulatory state, censorship state, and militarism. Using the might of the military he could easily put fear in the hearts of his citizens and use propoganda to sway their opinion.
He believed complete totalitarianism could bring about a superhuman society based in 20th century progressivism.
Hitler and the Nazi's took this to an even higher extreme by using euginics to create a superhuman race of people that could help him build a utiopian germany. He used his populist rhetoric to sway the people in favor of war to regain land Germany lost in WWII and continue his dicatorial reign.
Hitler also developed the idea of corporatism by taking control of Corporations and utilizing them, he could control the economic structure of his war machine and statist machine.
He regularly made speeches about the "middle class" and "average germans". He used anti-semitism to give the citizens a common enemy to fight... he blamed "greedy capitalism" and "western imperialsim" on the Jewish conspiracy.
He and Moussilini both used religion as a tactic. As where Moussilini used the existing Catholic faith to engulf Italy with an absolute faith in the state, Hitler used a neo-pagan system of belief to justify his social darwinism and increased Authoritarianism. He made his religion, not about God endorsing the state, but about the state (and himself) being God.
Fascism has differed per culture, country, and religion. Because it is based solely on an individual nation, rather than the International Revolution envisioned by Moscow, each variation of Fascism has different aspects. Even American Fascism is much differently approached by neo-nazi's and left wing populists. They use American terms and culture to urge a turn to a larger state... such as protestand christianity, Judeo-christian heritiage, and the belief in "Justice, Equality, and the Common Good".
All variations share the same goal, National Socialism... or hard Populism (as hard Progressivist Liberalism is Communism)... which is the goal to institute an all powerful God-state using propoganda, cult of personality, and if necessary militarism. However, in our society the last is not likely to be necessary.
Fascism has been in America in many forms. From the early 1900's Populist movement, to Woodrow Wilson, to FDR's New Deal, to LBJ's Great Society, all the way to the Fascism Light of George W. Bush. America has accepted the lighter, americanized ideas of Fascism all to well, as it has also accepted forms of light communism in it's international relations mostly. Aside from international affairs and core philisophical beliefs. Fascism and Communism share alot it common... mostly it's roots in Socialism and Karl Marx's ideas, however twisted they may have become. Trotsky was the last true Marxists, but Communism and Fascism have lived on in their multiple personalities.
One thing is certain, they all lead to the same goal. The State in Control.
For More Info read "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg.

Reply:Liberal Fascism is a very good book, it doesn't matter your political leanings, it goes into extreme details about fascism in the past up to today. There is a lot of information about many historical characters and what they have brought from it, and brought to it.
